Pregnant and thinking of adopting a pet.
My hubby and I were thinking of adopting a pet when we move next month. I haven't had a pet since my dog 4 years ago. And his cat of 11 years passed away back in September. Until now I had moved too often to think about a pet, and he had a hard time thinking about Mystic not being around. We have a baby coming in November but we both feel that void without a furry member of the family. And we would LOVE to have our first pet together.

Is it foolish to get a new pet so close to having a new baby? We both kind of want a kitten. I even got all hormonal and cried the other day because we saw some for free that a lady had. Pro's and con's anyone? I'm up for either range of advice.

I think it's a good idea chey, you will have four months to get the kitten settled in and tray trained,I know by your other posts that you are an intelligent woman and will have already considered the hygiene factors associated with cats poop, fur and babies..

You're a pet loving baby making machine chey!

    I say go for it.

You also don't have to get a kitten, you could adopt an older cat from the SPCA, one that's already trained etc.

Just throwing that out there. :)

    Oh, forgot to mention something.

If you do get a cat, you cannot be the one to clean out the litter box. It's very dangerous for pregnant ladies.

    Just fyi.

Yeah. Toxoplasmosis, I think I spelt that right. I type HORRIBLY... lol

Aww thanks for the compliment Red! I don't know if we would get an older cat. My hubby, while manly and wooly as he is, gets VERY attached. He cried for a month after Mystic died, and he's still mad at me because I was working the night she passed away and didn't call him back till morning. (We weren't married yet and I lived in another state.) I worry about getting an older animal for that reason alone. But I also wondered if having a baby kitten or other animal might help him feel more comfortable when the baby comes. He's a bit scared of the idea of holding a tiny baby, he's never been around babies, never changed a diaper.

    Preparatory therapy?
