    Kitten's eye infection
I found a kitten huddled up next to it's dead mother in the street and the kitten has an eye infection. It's not oozing anything but it is a little crusty and doesn't open all the way. She keeps rubbing it. Is there anything I can do to help this kittens eye recover? I want to keep her and make her well. I don't have the money for a vet.
Thank you so much. Diane Dewing

I know that warm damp cotton balls dabbed on the eye will help but if it is a serious infection you might need eye drops from the vet.
Do the cotton balls for about two days and if it isn't clearing up check with a vet. He may be able to recommend an over the counter remedy.

How tiny is the kitten? Don't feed her cow's milk; get kitten milk from the pet store. If she eats canned kitten food, make sure she has clean water available at all times. An area animal shelter should have vet coupons to make that low cost, or call the vet and tell him of your kitten's plight.

    How old is the kitten?
Have you had experience with cats before?
What are you feeding the cat right now?
Do you have any other pets in your house?
Is the kitten eating and drinking well?

Please answer these questions so I can help you better.

For now try the wet cotton ball idea it work most of the time.

If the infection is really bad then you have to go to the vet, if you don't that kitten will be suffering.

    Good Luck!:)

I found a baby kitten a couple of years ago, same story with the eye infection and she continued to get them. The vet said she just had really sensitive eyes. He told me to wrap her up in a towel (so she couldn't scratch) and use saline eye drops (like contact solution) and spray it in her eye until it started to open more and easier and do that 3 or 4 times a day until it completely cleared up and it worked for my cat... he also told me to use a really weak salt or vinegar water mix if it wouldn't clear up within a week or so. You can just use q-tips to drip it in there. Works like a charm... hope this helps! Good luck with the baby. I hope everything turns out okay.

Here are my instructions to you. Since you have no money for a vet, I recommend that you submit the kitten to the nearest shelter or rescue. You can go online and look up rescues in your area. If you can't afford eye drops for a kitten, you won't be able to afford a spay or neuter, or any subsequent health issues. Your kitten will grow to create other unwanted pets. Please, take the kitten to someone who can care for it properly.

Many places have free spay and neuter places for people with no money.
OP did not say they do not have money for eye drops.
If the cat is an indoor cat it will not reproduce unless it gets out or she brings a mate in.
I have had many cats and dogs and live on under $13, a year.

If she doesn't have money for a vet, how will she find money when/if the cat develops problems?

I have always found the money when it was absolutely necessary.
I have been both extremes of having money then not having money then having money within months.
