My 89 year old mother was a victim of a lottery scam and now she wants to die
My mother who lives in Miami was a victim of the infamous lottery scam where the perpetrators brain wash their heads mostly senior citizens into making them believe they have a winning lottery ticket but cannot cash them because they are illegal aliens, then another member approach them and pretend to help them blab, blab, blab most of us know the story….the thieves finally took my mom to the bank and got her to withdraw 4K out of her savings handled them the money pretend to have a headache ask my mom to wait until they buy an aspirin and left. It's an old scam and I am very surprise they were able to convince her because she is extremely careful with her money, nonetheless the reason for my post is that since this happens (a week ago) She has been very depress and cries all the time. She tells me that she cannot forget this horrible experience and now she has thoughts about ending her life. I have called her every day three or four times a day since this happen, had replaced her 4K in the bank, had tried to make her understand that thank God all she lost was money and not her life, but she cannot forget. I am very worry about her and need someone’s input of how I can help her. Unfortunately my company relocated me to Costa Rica for two years and my job keeps me out of the country all the time. Please let me know your input perhaps there are organizations that helps victims in getting their life’s back, or if you have a similar story let me know as to how you or someone you know finally got over this horrible experience.

Tell her she need not forget what happened but she can learn from her experience. She needs to move on. Is there someone that lives close that can help her take her mind off what has happened. Maybe she can start her own support group for seniors who are scammed. Maybe she can write an article in the local paper to help other seniors avoid this situation. Turn a bad situation into a good one!

I'm sure she feels embarrassed at being fooled.

Does she understand that she is one of many smart, savy, elderly people to have been tricked?
