    Barking dog
I have an obnoxious & belligerent neighbour with a doberman that she allows to bark & whine/howl when it is outside. City won't do anything unless they hear it. Very difficult when you live in a townhouse.
Is there anything on the market that will work on this problem without being obvious.
Any help will be a help

No, there is nothing on the market that won't harm or agitate the dog.

Use a camcorder that shows the date/time.

I have heard of something that you can hang in a tree. Looks like a decoration, uses batteries and when a dog barks it emits a high pitch (they say it doesn't hurt the dog) but makes them think about it, so they stop barking. I think I saw it in a dog magazine 'Fosters and Smith?'
Check on line for deterring barking.

If it was your dog I'd say citronella spray collar, but it's not, so...

Check out Dahlia's idea, never heard of it but definitely worth a try. :)

    You should eat it.

But seriously, have you tried talking to her? I think using a camcorder, and that device that deters barking are both great ideas!

The high pitched noise wouldn't stop the dog - in fact, my dogs would probably bark at the high pitched noise - so I think it MUST emit a high enough pitch to hurt the dog's ears.

Didn't think of that. I agree Judy. It must hurt in order to make them stop barking.

Sadly, since it's not the OP's dog, there's nothing he can do other then talk to the owner or record it so he can show animal control.

Sad really, that dog is only barking becaue his needs aren't being met. :(

I was thinking it was more of like a dog whistle, that only dogs can hear and then he would stop barking and listen. But I don't know, I never tried it.

We have a neighbor that has a device out in their front that emits a sonic sound to keep pests away:confused:. My husband can't hear it, but I can and when we walk the dogs by they walk very swiftly, but don't seem to be in any pain. They just completely ignore their yard as if it doesn't exist.

It is so sad when people get a dog as a status symble. I have a few neighbors who got dogs that made them look good. The poor animals bark and it is very bothersome. I am sorry that your dog control won't do anything ours does, I found that out when I called about some nieghbors who were leaving their puppies out in sub below 0 weather. USA temp.
A video cam is about the only thing that might work, show it to your neighbor then tell them you are taking it to dog control, maybe they will do something.

I don't know, I don't think a sound maker is very good. Just because the label says it doesn't hurt the dog, we can't know because we don't have dog's ears. Like everyone said, videotape it and see what happens. I would talk to your neighbors and tell them. If it was me, I wouldn't get too involved with the animal control, its better that the dog living a sad, lonely life at home then living a sad, lonely life in a small cage. I hope you figure something out, good luck!
