My husband has a set of 19 year old twins. They live with their mother in Nevada.
He has been paying child support since June 2002 to the best of my knowledge. At the time, he was paying the support out of a 401(k) that he'd cashed out. He was not working because I was in the Air Force and I was able to pay all our bills. His 401(k) ran out and he couldn't pay the child support. He decided to get a job. He was not making anywhere near what he made when the initial support order was created. The state started taking 50% of his paychecks. He decided to get a second job and the state took 50% of those paychecks as well. His support order for the kids was $1,000 per month. The state took $700 per month from his first job and another $100-$200 per month from his second job. It wasn't an issue because it was his responsibility to pay the support.
They turned 18 in 2008 and both graduated from high school. They both now have part-time jobs.
Our income situation changed over the years and he has gotten a better job and has had the full amount taken out of his pay for the last 4 1/2 years. There was a 5 month timeframe where no support was taken from his check.
I figured, after they turned 18, he'd still have his wages garnished for another 6 months or so because of the time when the full amount couldn't be paid from both of his jobs a few years back and the 5 months where none was taken.
Here it is, more than a full year later and the state is still pulling a little more than $950 per month from his paychecks.
The last notification received indicated he was paying on back child support.
For whatever reason, he doesn't seem overly concerned with calling the child support enforcement office to find out just how much he owes (if anything).
Can I contact the child support enforcement office and find out this information on behalf of my husband or is that something only he can do?
I really believe that he's caught up on the back child support and I fear that the state will keep garnishing his wages until he decides to find out what's going on. His kids will be 25 before they stop taking money and his ex wife is laughing all the way to the bank.

You cannot act on his behalf.

They will continue to pull garnishment until a court issues an order to stop... so yeah... he needs to do something about it. Nothing about ending support is automatic.
