    Toilet tank tight against wall, wish to add beadboard behind
    This may seem like a dumb question but help me out.

    We have a 75 year old home, and the basement was finished prior to our moving in. The bathroom walls had some problems and we decided to install a beadboard over top of them for a nicer look. However, we weren't taking the toilet into account and my husband wants to tear out the wall behind it down to the studs so that the beadboard can be installed without having to move the toilet. I say that we can just buy a different toilet with a different tank and it will sit farther away from the wall, allowing us to just install over the existing sheetrock/plaster. Any ideas?? Hubby, sledgehammer, 75 year old house - frightening!

    Janet, I assume your rough-in dimensions are 12" from the center of the bolts to the finished wall....No concrete breaking, no dealing with nasty pipes embedded in the concrete floor for 75 years !

    Yes, you could buy 10" rough-in toilet. That will give you about 2" extra bet. Tank and wall. They are not expensive, just not every store carries them. You only swap them, that's all... 15 minutes and you are done !

    Hey Janet,
    Forget about junking you old toilet. All you need to do is install a 1 inc h offset closet flange, (see image) and move the toilet out. If you need more instructions click on back with all the details, like what material is the old flange and raiser? and we'llwalk you through the change. Sound like\ a plan?
