Home Pregnancy Tests
Do all home pregnancy tests work the same? I bought First Response, I am 1 day late with my period but the test came back negative, I'm just curious if I could still be pregnant or maybe try and use another brand that's better, any thoughts?

Actually all hpts work about the same. However, if you are only one day late, and you are in fact pregnant, then there is not enough hcg hormone buildup for the test to detect it.
While these tests are fairly accurate, they do present more false negatives than false positives.
You should wait at least another week or tw to retake the test. You need the hcg hormone to be relatively high so the test will detect it.
All in all though, one day is not really considered late, even if you are regular.
What is your age? This could be an age related hormonal factor.

I'm 30 and we have been trying for 4 months, I'm just really anxious to find out, I hate to build my hopes up but I can't help it.

I have found any test to be pretty accurate. Did you take the test with your first morning urine?

Okay, at 30 your hormones levels are probably right where they should be. They tend to fluxuate until about age 25.
I understand your excitement, but to a doctor one day is not considered late. Your excitement itself could be stopping your period. Stress of any kind, good or bad, can cause period "problems" as well as making it harder to get pregnant.
Oh, yeah, and First Response is a great one!

Thanks, I guess I will just have to wait and see, I did take the test with my first morning urine so I guess only time will tell. I keep telling myself to relax and that my stress does more negative than positive but its easier said then done. This morning when I took the test I thought for sure it would be right because the package says you can detect the hormone 5 days before your period so I was pretty bummed but maybe there is still a chance. Thanks again for helping me out.

Yeah, there is a chance, but actually rather slim that it will show 5 days early. Personally, not professionally, I think, though it does happen, but not often, this is a marketing ploy. You end up buying more since the hcg can't usually be detected that early.
