    Computer running way too slow
My other computer just crashed.. it was a hand me down. NOW I'M USING MY OLD COMPUTER MY SISTER USED BEFORE SHE GOT A LAPTOP.
(opps caps lock) Any way I have a lot of school work to get done and being an very impatient person my computer is running way to slow... to the point where I just say forget about it and leave to do something else. I'mvery aggrivated and would like to know if there are any ways of cleaning the system out so it can run faster. We have high speed internet so my internet running slow must have to do with a piece of sh** computer. (just typing this piece my computer froze about 3 times) As much as I'd love a Mac I have a windows xp presario (sp?) from about 2000 something. Sorry I can't be more detailed. No I can not afford a new computer or I would have done so by now. PLEASEEEEEE HELP MY OUT! This is urgent.

    No rude comments .k

First off, caps lock was stuck? That is why there is a button titled "backspace" near the top right of your keyboard, to correct those mistakes.

Second, try disabling cookies and downloads. Now-adays, most sited download everything onto your computer. Sometimes, it's not temp files. Like, any image on any page, even the little pics get downloaded, and all of that eats up your memory, albeit slowly. Once you've visited a site once, you don't need to redownload all of that stuff. Still, some sites do it anyway. (meaning, multiple visits equals multiple downloads, equals more space taken up)

Usually, these can be cleared by (depending on your ISP, I think) closing down your internet, or reseting your computer.

When my computer starts getting slow my boyfriend reformats it. He backups any files we want to save. Then wipes everything clean. Then he has to reinstall windows and all the drivers and everything. I've watched him do it a few times now and I still wouldn't do it without his help but every time he does it I feel like I've got a new computer. It might be something worth looking into.

Justcurious: That is a drastic move, and a last measure if you aren't sure how to work your computer.

However, I'll tell you (and your bf) how to save yourself some trouble.
(assuming windows came stock on your computer) Call your computer company's support center line. After some "persuading" they can send you a "System Recovery" disk, free of charge.
I think Microsoft gives them to the computer companies that exclusively host windows, because I have three for three different computers (different brands) and they all say "windows [year/edition]", and say "(c) [year] microsoft" all over them.

Using this disk, it does exactly what your boyfriend does automatically (except, backing up the files. You still must doing tha manually)

Don't be a jerk. As my computer keeps freezing I'm not going to take the time to "backspace" just so I can please grammar nazis like yourself. I said no rude comments but you went there. Nice!

Since when is capitalization the same thing as grammar? I believe that is spelling.
If I DID want to be an anything nazi, as far as correctly using the English language goes, I would have done THIS to you. I wasn't trying to be a jerk, you were just overreacting.

I would also like to add, that it's good to see that the very first, sarcastic sentence posted in response you take the time to respond to, especially if it "freezes your computer" to do something such as post, but you don't even respond to any of the advice given. It REALLY sounds like you want to make your computer go faster more than you want to argue...
(Okay, well, THAT was jerky, but, what did you expect responding to me like that! XD)

Whatever your reason for responding in that fashion, I do hope that you follow the advice given here and are able to get your computer running faster again. I have had the same problems, and I know how frustrating it can be.

OK sorry I'm a stupid bit.. ch I have an attitude problem.. but the last time I tried reformatting my old computer I lost my sound and everything was bad. I didn't know what I was doing. I don't like calling big companys like windows cause they have you on hold forever. Ugh

I didn't say you were being stupid... just a little temperamental, and not focused on what you posted this thread on.

Anyway, before you try reformatting your computer, (which, as I previously stated, I don't recommend for inexperienced computer users) try some of those smaller steps.

Reseting your computer more often. Clearing your cache's. Removing and blocking cookies. Preventing downloads.

    Every little bit helps.

I'm always saving pictures my friends posted of us on myspace and such and I have Firefox and says "download complete". So I can't even save photos? I never knew that was bad 0_0
I download music a lot.. Can't survive with out it =[

Hmmm... How can I find programs to remove from my computer that aren't found in the "remove edit programs" in the control panel? I noticed that not ever program is innit.

As far as the pictures go: They are on myspace. The internet. Therefore, they will be there forever, and you don't need to save all of them to your computer. Just go back and look if you need to.

For the Music: Trust me, you CAN live without it. If it is THAT necessary, invest in a $50 mp3 player and dowload to that.

That is because some programs "hide" because they don't "want" to be removed. It takes lots of searching to find lots of these, and, at least for me, I'd have to personally have to be on there and looking through all of your files to find and remove all of the ones you don't want... which isn't a possibility. Though, maybe someone else who is better at that than me can come along.
