How do I change this myself? It only looks like I have to undo two bolts an then just replace.. is there any hidden problems that can occur? I was quoted £160.00 for part an fitting. I looked it up an brought the part for £22.00, why so much or was he trying to con me? Look like it would only take about ten minutes??

I assume this is on a water heater. I'm not familiar with relief valve and I can't pull anything up on the web. Can you post pictures of the boiler and the valve? Regards, tom

Hi, the bottom pic is the valve an it's the black one.

Hi DBS:

Easy to replace... just be absolutely sure you replace with the same relief valve present.

Shut power off to the boiler. Shut off the water supply into the water heater and then open a hot water tap (faucet). Then drain the water to just below the relief valve... no need to drain lower.

Unscrew the compression nut at the TPR valve and remove the pipe. Unscrew the old TPR valve counterclockwise and remove.

Wrap some teflon tape or pipe dope around the new relief valve and install to reasonable tightness without over tightening and then re-install the old pipe and tighten the compression nut.

Turn on water and purge air through the open hot water tap. Check other taps for air/sediment that may have loosened.

Turn boiler power back on and you should be all set!
