Hi

My tub always seems to clog or have very slow drainage. I don't want to continue to put chemicals down the drain that tends to ONLY work for 1-2 days.

What's weird is I had a plumber come over and he could not fix the problem- he even told me to use DRANO.

The drain pipe does not go straight down (which I think is the problem)- see the diagram below

It starts going down then it goes to the right so a plunger would do no good- what else can I do??

What did the plumber do? You should remove the over flow olate and rod down that tube.

The plumber snaked it but told me that it could not reach certain parts because of the way the pipes were laid out(no idea what that means) he also said he MAY have to cut a hole in the downstairs bathroom or kitchen to see where the pipes travel.

Being that he is the professional I thought it made sense but we decided to not sure him once he told us to use the DRANO and didn't try something else.

Good call, most plumbers willl not recommend chemicals. Do not bother trying to plung but do remove the overflow plate and rod down at that point.

Like Bob says, Snake it from the tub waste and overflow, (see image). Unscrew and remove the overflow plate, (The one with the drain lever) and pull out the tub stopper. You now have a clear shot at the trap, feed the cable (1/4" best or 3/3" with a small tip. You can rent a Ridged K50 sink cable.) About 2' down you will run into the bend of the trap. Crank and push at the same time to work around it.

Your blockage will be found in the lateral pipe going to the stack. You shouldn't have to put out more then 10 or 12 feet, Good Luck.
