I desperatly need to get rid of this black hair without literally dying
Hello my name is Haley and I have developed a rare but deadly allergy to hair dye.
I CANNOT use any sort of hair dye as the I am extremely allergic to the active ingredient of PPD or any sort of diamine which unfortunately is in all hair dyes, even the "all natural ones".

I last dyed my hair black in October of 2008 so at this point I have some pretty unsightly roots. Luckily I have naturally darker brown hair so my roots aren't completely hideous but they are none the less noticeable so I really need to dull the black colour.

I've already tried head and shoulders along with sunlight dish soap with very little luck :(
At this point the quicker and harsher the treatment the better as I am growing desperate and I am more than willing to sacrifice my hair health.

    Please help!
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

Your new growth should be about 23 cm (4.5 inches) long. You've already tried the obvious things, and fading after 9 months is going to be minimal at best. You can't use ColorFix, because that will produce PPD in the process. You could bleach just the black, but that would probably leave the hair reddish and needing to be toned. You could use temporary toners to do the toning, but you'd have to use them each time you shampoo.

    How about a short haircut?

Roux Fanci-Ful rinse is the most common temporary toner. They contain no PPD, peroxide, or ammonia. They simply coat the hair.

If you decide to try bleaching, be sure and do a strand test.
