Your pump will require a grounded 3 prong plug which is plugged into a GFCI receptacle or breaker. Amps depends on what size motor you have. #12 wire can handle 20 amps and #14 is good for 15 amps. The wire size can be thicker than what the breaker is rated for but not smaller. The correct plug and wire from the pump to the plug should have been there to start with unless I am reading you wrong.

You also need to use PVC conduit to the pool.

    This depends on a lot.

    Where is the filter?
What other things are being wired?

There are a ton of codes involved with wiring pool equipment.

(In the US) The outside portion of wiring for pool equipment MUST be in conduit and must have individual insulated conductors.
If the receptacle is between 5'-10' of the pool it MUST be a twist lock type receptacle fed from a GFI breaker.
The receptacle CANNOT be closer than 5' to the pool.
The cord from the pump cannot be longer than 3', and must be #12 or larger.
The receptacle must have an in-use cover on it.
The pool frame, filter motor and other equipment must be bonded with a #8cu solid wire.

This is just the beginning. I strongly suggest you read up on wiring for pools. This is no casual task and is not like "typical" home wiring.
