    Curious about my wireless mouse
    I think this is the right place for this question :)

    My wireless mouse has a little round button on the left side of it, (where my thumb sits) that says "DPI" on it. It seems to make the mouse jumpy or smooth. What is it? What does the dpi stand for? I would look in the instruction book, but I don't have one, I got it from my dad

    I have the same problem. My kids keep yelling at me to quit hitting the scroll bar.

    DPI (or CPI) on a mouse refers to its sensitivity -- basically, how many pulses are sent to the computer for each unit of distance the mouse moves (we're talking physical movement on the mousepad, not movement on the screen). DPI means Dots Per Inch; CPI is Counts per inch. CPI is probably more technically correct, but I see DPI a lot in ads.

    Oh in that case you need to go into computer settings and change your mouse settings.
    I haven't had that problem in over a year.

    Hehe yeah I got it all fixed. And I'm going to try hard not to hit that button. Its frustrating. But its RIGHT there where my thumb rests :P so its going to be tough. Silly wireless mouse. What ever happened to just old fasioned ball mouses :P

    In my Mouse Settings (in Control Panel) there is a "Motion" tab that lets you set the mouse sensitivity. The DPI/CPI rating is a maximum. The button is just a convenient way (according to the manufacturer) or an irritating way (depending on your point of view) to change the sensitivity.

    What ever happened to just old fasioned ball mouses?
    Actually, they had their own irritants. I much prefer a corded (no fussing with batteries) optical mouse. The ball mice kept getting dust and gunk on the rollers that the ball rode on, and the mouse cursor would jump and slip and make all kinds of irritating movements when it got dirty.

    True, but I am nurotic and OCD, and I LOVE cleanign mouse balls and rollers :P

    I admit, it was a huge pain cleaning them, but kind of fun at the same time :o

    I have my darn laptop pad... I really really want a wireless mouse, the pad is driving me crazy!

    You will still want a mousepad with a wireless mouse. It makes the mouse move more smoothly and the reporting to the computer is more even.
