    House, No Deed, No Mortgage
    My husband and I built a house in 2006 on heir property (his families land) he told me that we did not need a deed because the house is on heir property, however, I found out different and we are getting ready to separate and I need to get a deed so that I can at least get my half. He does not want to sell the house because it's on family land and I don't want the house, I just want either what I put in the house or half the value. All the land is in his grandfathers name. What type of deed do I need to get to show both our ownership in the house? Please help ASAP.

    I don't know what kind of deed you need. All I know is that you need the services of a very good real estate lawyer.

    There is no deed to get. The land belongs to his family. You have NO interest in the land. So what you need is copies of all the costs involved in building the house itself. Or an appraisal of the value of just the house, not the land.
