My dog wakes me up several times a night
    Hi,

I have a 6 month old Staffy. We have had him since he was 2 months old . During the day he is great. He is obedient and he always lets us know when he needs to go outside to go potty. He even pees on command.

Since we have had him he has slept on his bed in our bedroom. He does not sleep in a crate. Every evening before we go to bed we take him outside and then he goes straight to his bed without a problem. We normally goes to sleep around 10 and every night he will wake up around 12-1 and try to get up in my bed. I tell him to go back to bed and he does. He then wakes up around every hour until I get up at 6. He does not need to go outside because if he does he lets me know by going to the door.

It does not matter how much we exercise him he will still wake up.
The only way we can get him to sleep trough the night is to go and sleep with him on the couch.

Any suggestion would be really helpful cause I'm getting very tired.

Best suggestion I can offer is invest in a crate.

I have 2 poodles that sleep on the bed with me and some nights they become a bit of a pain so they go in crates.

I would have been happy to train them to stay in a bed but every attempt failed, I would send them to their baskets and they would happily go to sleep, then in the middle of the night I would wake up with a nose poking my eyeball.

Crate training can take a bit of time and you will have maybe 3-4 nights of crying but the result is well worth it.

Mine get a special treat when they sleep in their crates (liver snacks) so they actually race to get in there.
Put a blanket over the crate as well so they feel more secure and will be more likely to go to sleep (and even sleep in later than usual :) )

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I have been thinking about getting a crate because I have heard so many good things about it.

    I will definitely try it.

Be certain to make it a "den." A blanket over a wire one or one of the two-piece plastic crates lets them feel safe so they'll take to it more readily.
