I have a sears riding mower and am trying to find out what a lever below the steering wheel does. It has a dial like a door knob on top of it and numbers with a pointer below it. I can't figure out what it does. My riding mower also cuts lower on the left side (when you sit on the seat) since I have changed the blades. I have tried to adjust the nuts on the treads under where you place your feet but it still doesn't seem to help can anyone please help me before I run it over a cliff

If I understand which knob you are talking about, it is the deck stop. Your deck handle on the right side only has two knotches in it. One is all the way up and the other is all the way down. If you screw the knob in you can set the stopping point for the deck so you don't cut too low. It is just a fine tuner for your own personal deck height.

As for the uneven cut, I would check the blades. Sometimes if one blade is bent it will make that side cut lower. You can measure from the ground to the blade surface. Do that for both blades and both ends of each blade.
