I have a Craftsman 10" table saw that is a few years old, maybe 8 years. It is a direct drive saw rather than a belt driven model. The problem I have is that the resetable trip switch / breaker on the saw keeps 'blowing. The house power breakers are OK. The power to the wall outlet is what the saw calls for. I have replaced the reset switch and other related electrical items [except below], and checked all the wiring, connections and all other parts of the saw. They are OK no frays etc. When I turn the switch on, the saw rotates very slowly instead of an immediate increase in the reset switch. It turns slow as if the power isn't getting to the motor and then the breaker switch is tripped. The caveat is that soemtimes the saw starts up perfectly as it normaly does and smost of the time it does this problem. I have the owners manual & the motor has capacitors on it. I think they are used to reserve electricity to help the motor start up. I think it may be the motor and or capacitors. I can remove it for testing if necessary or for replacement /repair. Hate to give it up as the new ones look flimsy & or the nicer ones are $600 plus dollars. Any clues would help. Thanks:confused:

The caps should be replaced. One may be a start cap and one may be a run cap. You should find info for your saw at Parts & Accessories | Shop & Find Lawn & Garden, Appliance Parts at Sears PartsDirect | SearsPartsDirect.com although you may be able to find the caps cheaper elsewhere. Run and start caps are slightly different in construction.

If the saw is about 8 years old then replace the caps unless there is severe friction in the motor or blade bearings.

The start cap is probably giving you trouble. Do the following: Disconnect one lead of the start cap and cap it and with the saw off, manually rotate the blade in the correct direction and then turn on the power switch while the blade is still rotating. It should run without incident.
