    Fire Ants in Compressor.not working
    I came home yesterday to a hot house. I found that the 3 amp fuse in the air handler cabinet was "popped". I replaced it and got the fan spinning again. However, the compressor out side won't spin, the siemens control (up top) smells kind of burned, and I observe a good number of dead fire ants around the inside of the unit. Is it possible that the fire ants shorted the control out? Is it more likely that the problem lies elsewhere, and should not replace the Siemens part? Looking forward to being cool, Thanks!

    Would need more information on control. Seimens is a brand and makes over 500 controls and parts. I doubt the fire ants had anything to do with it though.
    The 3 amp fuse is for the 24 volt wiring. Check for chewed control wires by outdoor unit and indoor unit. Or dry cracked wires with copper showing. If you find that fix them and than go from there.

    The Siemens part is a (45DG10AJA758R series C), if that helps. The wires don't seem chewed at all, and the units were installed in 11/07, pretty new. Is that burned smell a pretty goood indication that the siemens part is toast? I think that the fuse has "popped" again, because the fan won't even come on any more. Your thoughts?

    I`ve seen this many times, thiking you are looking at the contactor,, with the power turned off most of the timeyou can remove contactor and clean it ,all dead varmits, and it will work again ,after reinstalled and power turned back on

    Caution,, you are messing with 230 volts of electric,, be sure to kill the power

    Come up to speed. In US residential, the power is Usually suppied as 240/120. Not 220, Not 110, not 117 and not 118 1/2 volts.

    240/120 nominally.

    Maybe so,, but when I put a meter on a condenser unit it normally gives me a reading of 224/226 and around 115 therabout on the single post to ground,, so I say what I read,, unless it bothers someone(and I guess it does) in conversation I say 230/115,, sorry to offend anyone
