Crack in white corian kitchen sink
I have a 3 year old corian kitchen sink that has a crack in the bottom part of the sink. Is there any way to repair this ? The sink is apart of the corian counter. The crack is about 6 inches long, not wide but goes through to the underside of the sink.

First call duPont at 1-800-426-7426 (1-800-4CORIAN) and ask to have a waranty inspection. If the sink is Corian and faulty they will have it replaced. It has a 10 year waranty against faulty materials and installation as long as it was installed by a certified installer.

They may determine that the crack was caused by abuse. If this is the case they will deny your claim. The most common abuse is pouring hot water directly into the sink. The literature is quite clear on this. When pouring off boiling water into the sink, one must always have acouple of inches of cold water in the sink or have the cold water running. Other wise the repeated thermal shock will result in cracking.

If your claim is denied, you can contact Jim Heaphy at Top Repair - Your Countertops Like New Again - About Our Staff . He will know of qualified countertop repair individuals in your area who can replace your sink.

If you would like to repair it yourself, call Art Specialties International, Inc. at 1-800-724-4008. They have an easy and permanent repair for most cracks like this. The repair will usually be completely invisible. You must not continue to pour off boiling water into the sink as anew crack elsewhere may appear. The sink is now stressed and it is more likely to happen. However, with this repair, you can get many many years of useful service from the sink. This repair does not stop you from having the sink replaced in the future.

I agree with Kidolph: Corian can be repaired, crack filled and buffed out. I have seen it done before and was impressed with results. Follow his instructions and advice.
