    R-22 to Puron conversion.
Greetings. Old AC condenser failed after previous property owner allowed for weeds to corrode condenser assembly. It was R-22 based. I would like to install a 410 based puron condenser, I am just wondering if the original copper and evaporator are safe to use for this application, or should I replace those as well. Will it effect seer rating to reuse the older equipment?

    Replace all.

The older evaporator is not certified for use with the higher pressure R-410A

The oil for R-410A is not compatible with the mineral oil now in the R-22 system.

The copper tube size might be wrong for use with more efficient units since there has been a increase in suction line size with the advent of the 13 SEER equipment.

R-410A is not the same animal as R-22 and special provisions need to be adheared to for proper install and longivity. Take a class specific for R-410A if you are going to attempt this install yourself.

You will need a dang good Vac pump
Make sure to purge with nitrogen during brazing of lines. Etc

Unless you are certified to handle refrigerant and are a HVAC contractor most if not all warrentys from the manufacturer will be VOID by the factory.

R-410A is a BLEND and proper charging methods are necessary to make sure the system contains the proper mix of both refrigerants that are contained in the single jug.

The only thing that can possibly be reused is the line set if it is the right size, but it will need to be flushed. However, if its not flushed right you may have a problem, so why take a chance when dropping that sort of coin.

    Replace all.
