I can't renew my ip address!
Ok here's the deal guys, I'm using a laptop now using someone else's internet since my desktop ain't working. The problem is with the desktop, it cannot renew the ip address! The modem is working fine and has ALL the lights blinking, everything is working. The network connections lan says its connected to a automatic address or invalid ip and it's supposed to be to a DHCP server. I tried restoring it, unplugging it and that winsockxpfix program. I am out of ideas, can someone please help me?! Thx in advance guys

Often the problem is that the person set a fixed IP address in the Network Settings.

I'm basically having the same problem... I tried releasing it, renewing it, tried another ethernet card, winsock, reformatting the PC, uninstalling and installing the lan driver, and stopping and starting the dchp. I'm about to explode because I can't get this to work...

If you've done all that then the issue is obviously not with your computer but with the network you are trying to connect to.

I fixed it the day after... I just left the modem plugged into the computer for a night. The pc's been idle for 6 months. So I'm guessing it needed time to register.
