Have you swabbed the back of your throat? That's what they do when I go to the dentist, as I have a horrible gag reflex.

That's not a permanent solution, go back to the dentist and have him trim it down a bit

The dentist can't trim but so much of the denture off in order for it to still have suction. If it's a partial, he/she can trim it up a little more and count on the clasps for retention.

The best thing is to continue practicing putting it in and hopefully you won't continue to have the gagging reflex. Lay your tongue flat and open your mouth wide. Without your tongue being in the way, you're less likely to gag. Even try sticking it out slightly and that should help.

As for numbing products, try Chloraseptic. You can spray it in the back of your throat; it may help some but I think trying to move your tongue out of the way is your best bet.

Are you gagging when putting the denture in or is it continual once you've seated it?
I take it you didn't gag before the reline was done.

If you gag only when inserting the denture you can try the things mentioned above but also remember to breath through your NOSE.

If once it is placed you continue to gag you should call the dentist or denturist and have him take a look.
