    Installing An Exterior Door
I want to install a pre-hung exterior door for side access to my garage. The wall is made of adobe brick on top of a stem wall whose t.o. stem wall is 8" abv. Garage floor. Can I cut dn. Into this stem wall so as to make the bottom of door flush with the floor? What are the chances I will hit rebar or some other item in the foundation/stem wall? With a sloped garage floor maybe it is better to install door at T.O. stem wall and create some sort of landing. Please, advise.

As a Manson never laid an adobe brick here in the north east..

You bet use a masonry saw and some hand chiseling to tweak.

Don't know can't see through concrete walls or was I there to see it built. Either or a carborundum blade on a saw will cut the concrete stem wall and also the rebar.

I don't see a new door header mentioned here. Don't forget to double up on the jambs and a header sitting on that.

Paint exterior door [ 2 Answers ]

I have recently painted my exterior door which is a metal plate on a wooden door. Before painting, I striped the old paint, sanded, cleaned, and primed the door. I then used a brush to apply a good latex exterior paint. When the paint dried it looks like it had "water spots" all over the door. ...
