If you have a floppy drive

Try to access your ntfs partitions by making a ntfs boot disk with NTFS4DOS (freeware). You can download it from http://www.geekswhoknow.com/files/ntfsinst.exe
You will need a floppy disk.

If that is not an option, I would suggest a repair installation

    Repair Installation
A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied.

    Perform a Repair Installation

Try staring the computer in Safe mode by press F8 after you restart the computer.

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately do not have a floppy drive. I have tried the recovery disk and it starts up and loads up files but when it goes to open windows it reverts to the same blue screen.

I have also tried all options in safe mode and last known good configuration all with same result.

See if you can get hold of or borrow an XP setup disk and run the repair installation from that (not recovery cd, but an XP cd)

If you do get hold of one, just do the repair installation with the link above
