    Giving up rights in michiagn
    In the state of Michigan does a parent who gives up theie rights still have to pay chils support? And also does this procees have to be done in front of a judge?

    Try browsing through some of the previously posted questions before posting new ones. I don't know how many people have asked this question but the response is always the same: parents cannot give up their rights. Even if you choose not to use your rights to see or contact your children, you are still responsible for supporting them.

    I wish there was a Termination of Parental Rights subheading, so they wouldn't waste space here.

    The only way to terminate is with a judge's approval, the child must be adopted by a step parent (married only and usually married a year or more). You will still be responsible for any child support amount in arrears.

    If for some reason, somehow they get to give over their rights, yes they will still have to pay child support
    *** Unless they sign over their rights to allow a step parent to adopt.

    But it is almost never done ro allowed. The other parent does not have to visit, they don't have to ever call or even see the child, but they normally can't give up their rights. And most certainly can't give them up just not to pay support
