    Spotting between periods
    Hi,

I have had a problem with spotting for 8 yrs. I have a cycle with an average of 34 days. The spotting usually starts around day 18. Ortho Novum 7/7/7 has always worked. My doctor tried me on low dose because and also on monphasic. Low dose because made the spotting worse. Ortho Novum 1/35, which is monophasic, works, but not as quickly as 7/7/7. It has a constant dose of 1mg progestin each day. I had an ultrasound which came back normal. My new doctor thinks that my lining is "ruffled" or uneven which is caused by high levels of estrogen. When using because to stop the spotting, I usually get 1 good month for every month I was on the pill. For example, if I was on the pill for 6 months, I would usually have 5 months off the pill with no spotting and normal periods. My doctor thinks that it takes that long for the lining to build up again. On Ortho Novum 1/35, I was on the pill for 4 months and had 3 1/2 months with no spotting & normal periods. I am 39 and would like to get pregnant. This is very stressful to me. When spotting, it goes on for months, until I go on because. I need help with this. It upsets me so much every time it happens. There is a strong history of breast cancer in my family, so I am nervous about spending half my life on the pill! There is suspicion that there may be a breast cancer gene in my family, but so far, none of us have been tested. Can you please make a suggestion for something I can do for this? I would great appreciate any help you can offer.

    Thanks!

Has your doctor every suggested a D&C to clean out your uterus?

I am concerned about the link of breast cancer in your history along with you taking birth control. Is the doctor concerned about this?

You may possibly be spotting when coming off birth control because your hormones are starting to get back to normal, and this can take a while.

Might I suggest seeking a second opinion from another doctor?
