    Character Ref.
How do you go about asking people for a character reference letter w/o telling someone the reason? "That you don't want to go to Jail!"
My friend from the earlier post, "identity theft, probation or jail?", was told by a lawyer that is she could get character letters from people and send them to the judge, it might help her out with the sentencing.
Has anyone heard of that and if so, how would you go about getting one from a friend or co-worker w/o having to say why?
I know she is so embarrassed about what has happened and may not even get the letter because of the embarrassment. Any advice?

If you think about it, the best thing to do is come clean about it. If she ends up going to jail; her boss is going to find out anyway.

But, all she has to say to them is that she is going through a personal problem and she it would help her out to get a reference letters. If someone asks her, she can just tell them that it is personal. If she really is a good person then they shouldn't have an issue doing it.

    Hello t:

People don't need a reason to write a character letter. They're written all the time for LOTS of different stuff.

All they need to say is: To whom it may concern:

I like so and so because...

Thanks Ex. We have asked a couple of people and they asked why, we said "personal." If they want more detail, we move on to another friend.
