    Out of State Inheritance
A relative of mine left me part of the estate. They lived in another state. Now, my cousin, the executor, who lives in the state as my relative, has had his attorney send me a "Request for Taxspayer identfication number & certification" form in which to send back my Social Security numbers.

I don't feel comfortable with this. Is this necessary? They say they are ''completing the accounting in the estate and the preparation of the Inheritance Tax Return" for that state.

Isn't it up to me to give MY state the inheritance I receive? Why do they need my SS#'s. What would you do?

It is common for them to report this and provide you the tax forms.

If in doubt, contact a local attorney to discuss what you are indeed required to do
