Not familiar with marriage contracts. Please explain further. Is this a contract to marry at a certain time and how is money involved ? I would agree if there is any sueing to be done, it would to be where the offending party lives, in this case I am assuming it is Florida. But is he a Canadian citizen ?

This was a marriage contract (prenup) drawn up in Quebec by a notary, promising a certain sum of money.

It was never paid because before I knew it- my ex had suddenly moved to Florida.

A prenup isn't a marriage contract. Its held separate. As far as the validity of a prenup that is something for a court to decide. Was the prenup written by a lawyer or barrister ? Was it approved by and courts as part of a divorce decree ?

You are right, it was done prior to the marriage, it was drawn up by a notary and was approved by the Quebec courts.

We subsequebtly got divorced after 3 years, had a legal separation and automatically was divorced. Prior to the divorce however, he moved to Florida.

Then if you were granted a judgement by the courts you have that power in your hands for collection. The route you take can vary widely. And so can the expense. If your still in Canada and he is in the U.S. then you will still be bound by U.S. law for debt collection with the exception that this came from a divorce decree so can not be wiped out by bankruptcy. Depending on the size of the debt you might try calling debt collection agencies and find out what fees they may charge. Or you could try to collect on your own but again if separated by countries it would be very hard to do.
