Why is my cat acting differently?
My female cat is now 12 years old and recently I, and my family noticed my cat acting strange. About a week or 2 I noticed my cat is a lot slower, like moving slowly. She has loss of appetite but she still eats if I have food in my hand and put it next to her. Her nose also has dried up a little. She used to have a very moist nose. It seems like she's lost. She looks confused. She drinks good amount of water, but she'd rather meow at the door to go outside and when she goes out she drinks the rain water on the ground. Its like she rather drink the rain water than fresh water. I don't know why she's like this. All she does is sit on my bed almost all day sleeping or doing nothing. She seems "okay" but she's just not as hyper as she used to be a few months ago. Please help. I've been so worried for her for the past few days and I told my dad that we need to go to the vet tomorrow.

    Thanks

Maybe you should try spring water and take her to the vet. At 12 it could be that she is getting older but yes take her to the vet to make sure there isn't something more serious. Let us know how the vet visit goes.

She's drinking water right now. There is food next to her and she won't eat it! She will stare at it and get in the stance of eating, but she just switches back to her water. I noticed her stomach has gotten slimmer too.

Sometimes all the cat may need is some outside time most cats like to be outside in the nature for they can move freely they don't like being confined all the time

The cat has had outside time, as the poster indicated she drinks old rain water. She may have picked up a parasite or something from outside! My cats don't go outside and they are perfectly happy.

erfahn, make sure the vet does thorough blood work... your cat could have renal disease, or any number of things going on. I hope she feels better soon, and please keep us posted...

I took my cat to the vet today. They said she was dehydrated and has kidney failure. I'm so miserable. The doctor gave us treatments to keep her hydrated and the doctor gave us appetite stimulates. They said the latest she could stay alive is a year or if you're lucky, 2 years if she's treated well. I can't even describe how miserable I am right now. I've had her almost all my life.

    Thanks everyone for the advice.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. Did your vet recommend any special food for her? Some kitties really come around with some special treatment- it doesn't get rid of the disease, but it gives you a bit more time with your special friend.

    Please take care...
