    Heat won't come on.
Help. My heat downstairs won't come on. It is a heat pump. What can I try to fix, before I call a repair guy. I have electric heat upstairs and it's fine. I'm freezing.

I am not that good on heat pumps. Start with making sure the thermostat has power. Most quick thing is to try the fan on setting. If the fan comes on, you have power. To get heat, the outside compressor must come on, and the reversing valves that convert from heat to cool must be in the correct position, and the blower must run. All that is controlled by relays, one at the outside unit, and more likely on a $$$$$ circuit board in the air handler. That is also likely where you would find the transformer that powers the thermostat and the fuse that protects it. A new fuse may be all you need. So check what you can. Maybe somebody else here can give more specific info on heat pumps.

Thank you for your advise. The fan does come on, but it is cold air. I guess I'll have to call a a/c man.
