    I've never seen or heard of that situation before. I'm not even sure what hitting the fuel sending unit would do. Personally, I would not have confidence driving the car because I would always fear it would let me down. I would remove the sending unit and fuel pump, clean all connections, and then decide if you wanted to install new.
