Petit Larceny NY
Hi. I was arrested for petit larceny yesterday in a Sears in Rotterdam, New York. I stole two shirts that had a total value of $76. I am 17 years of age, I have no prior trouble with the law and I am seeking some advice. I don't have a job at the moment, and I'd like to have some insight on how much this situation will end up costing me with; court fees, a possible fine, etc. I'd also like to know whether I'll have to end up doing community service or be entered in some program for people that have problems with theft. I'm not hiring a lawyer because I can't afford one. I'm also trying to do whatever I can to not have my parents find out about this. I have a court date coming up in a few weeks, so any advice will help.
Thanks so much.

You want to ask the legal aid about an acd. Not really sure about the court fees or the exact penalty, ask your lawyer.

I don't have a lawyer. I also won't be getting one until the court appoints one to me.
The meaning of me asking this question was for me to know what's going on prior to entering the court room. I'm a 17 year old kid who knows next to nothing about what I got myself into, and I am going through all of this without the help of any adults, which makes it a lot harder.
A little more info about the topic would help. Thank you.

If you have not been in trouble before, ask about a first offender program.
My guess, fine of about 500 dollars and if you can't pay it all, there may be fees added for you to make payments
Then maybe a year probation to allow you time to pay the fine

I have no pity for you. You made the choice to steal. Stores lose way more than that every year because of shoplifters...

Nah, I haven't. I don't even know how to go about doing that, or what to say.
