Social security taxes for short term disability
    Hi,
I have been out on short term disability for the past 3 months. I have been receiving checks from a third party provider that my company pays the on. They have been taking out all the taxes for each pay check including social security. Today I received my bonus check which deducted out the max for the year (2009) on social security ($6621.60). So now I have deducted out of my pay checks between STD and my company in excess of about $2,200.
My question is, how can I get this money back, since I have already had the max deducted from my pay? Does anyone know what recourse I have?

    Thanks

File your tax return. The disability payments you received for which your employer paid the insurance is taxable income.

I assume you meant 2008, not 2009, in your original post.

If your Social Security was over-withheld, you can claim a refund on Line #65 of the Form 1040. If you failed to do this, amend your return using Form 1040X.
