    Outside Fan on Air Conditioner
Hi. If anyone could help me with my air problem it would be greatly appreciated. I don't know much about it so I apologize for not giving much information. My question is we just replaced our unit last year so we only used it through the winter. I'm not positive that it was working correctly then but either way if it was or wasn't we used it. We have an old thermostat inside on the wall but the outside unit is new so that is why I'm hoping and thinking that is not the problem. But my main problem is that even when we have our air set on around 72 it is still extremely hot inside. The temp is set on around 72 but it is still more than 80 degrees in the house. When we go outside to the unit the fan is not turning. But inside it sounds like it is working fine. What could be causing the fan outside not to be working? Could this be an inside thermostat problem since the unit is new or what could this be? I know that there could be problems with a new unit as well but if there is no problems with the unit could there be something else causing the fan not to turn? Please help thanks so much

Did you check the breaker to your outdoor unit? Alos maybe wired wrong or low on freon. Do you have a volt meter?

Assuming the sound from the outside unit is the compressor,at this time the fan also should be running. If its not it should be under warranty. Most are under warranty for at least 5 years. ((call the installer,)), since it was installed near the winter you have no idea if it ever worked from the beginning

After reading your comment/question about 3 times, yes I would check the breakers first, in breaker box and possibly outside in the disconnect box, before calling someone

we have checked the breaker it is not the breaker. I'm not sure what else to check.
Its just so random since it seems to have been working fine so we thought and it is new. What else causes the fan to turn? Does the thermostat have anything to do with it or freon or?? Sorry to sound so stupid. We have just had so many problems with it lately that is why we decided to replace the unit and now this...

Does the compressor outside run? Make a hum? Could be a bad capasitor. Take the door off the electric pannel to the outdoor unit. Then look for this capasitor.

Look to see if the wires are burnt or the top is swollen up in any spot. It should be flat.

    Next find the contactor.

See the little button in the middle? Look to see if it is pushed in? If not you can press the botton with a screw driver and see if your unit comes on.

Also if you have a heatpump you may see a control board in there with a flashing light. Count the flashes. Try these three ideas and report back.
