This is a real pain in the Br-
When I inherited a home, I inherited a LOT of challenging, old repair problems to deal with! One of them is a solar water system -- it has apparently been drip-leaking water from its Automatic Air Vent Valve for years. (It is so heavily encrusted with scale that we had a hard time even figuring out what this part is without some intense web searching.)

I think it was natural that no attention was paid to this part of the solar system because we don't live in the house, we were getting as much hot water as we wanted, and this part is located on top of the roof.

However, when we suddenly had what looked like a fountain spraying atop the roof, we found yet another wonderous repair adventure that had to be moved up on the priority list. (We now keep the water turned off at the Main until we have to wash hands and flush toilets.)

My husband would like to be able to actually see the part and how it was connected to the copper piping before we attempt to replace this little bugger with the correct replacement bugger. (We'd call for professional help but are too limited on cash :( )

Do any of you know of a product we could use that will remove a mountain of scale WITHOUT HARMING the brass and copper parts?

    Thanks in advance!

Can you post a pic of the said culprit. If so, someone here may be able to help. However, I believe these systems can be very involved. And even though money is tight, you may require the assistance of paid professionals. Good luck and please let me know how things work out.

Take your picture and put it on your hard drive. When you post click onpost reply or go advanced.
Make your post and scroll down to Manage Attachments click on that and then click Browse This will allow you to get into your computer and retrieve your picture and upload it to The Plumbing Page. Good luck, Tom
