dog with cushings decease and diabetes
I have a 10 yr. old springer spaniel female that has recently been diagnosed with cushings decease and diabetes. I am giving her cushings meds 2x a week and insulin 2x a day (Lantis) her glucose level is in the mid 300s at this point which is down from high 400s before. She is slightly better but still does not have much appetite and is still losing weight. Still very lethargic. She weighs about 58 pounds. Is not really drinking very much and is definitely not hungry. Her insulin intake at this point is 11units 2x a day. I don't know why but for some reason I think the insulin makes her feel worse. But that shoudn't make any sense. This has been going on for a couple of months now and don't feel we have gotten a handle on this thing yet. Any info/advice on this welcome.

Are you giving the insulin when she is not eating?
When was the last glucose curve done to determine if the dosage is still proper?

She has had several all day curves done and it was always determined that her glucose stayed relatively high all day (in the 300s for the last one). I had her glucose tested yesterday quickly at the vets and it was 300 something. I do make sure she has something to eat before I give her her injection but I do give it to her immediately after she has something to eat. How much does she need to eat though. She has never been much of a morning eater so getting her to eat then is hard. At this point she doesn't want any dog food. So I have been giving her boiled chicken, hard boiled eggs and these chicken and rice treats that guarantee she'll eat. But there is no bulk to her diet so I think her stomach doesn't feel great.

With cushings - have they determined what is causing it? IE is it an adrenal tumour?
Has she ever had her thyroid tested?

They don't really know for sure but with an ultrasound they saw some tumors on her adrenal glands so that may be it. Yes she had her thyroid tested but that was sort of early before we knew what was going on. Hasn't had it tested lately.
