Acrylic tub should be set into a mortar base, is there a mortar mix that is white? I helped a friend install his tub but when we finished you could see that the mortar mix he used was showing through the tub creating a dark bottom! I was informed that I could mix lime with the mortar to make it white? Would that eliminate the shadow that the grey mortar made? Does it effect the strength of the mortar? How can I avoid this from happening when I do mine?

Yes, there is white mortar. You have to got to specialty masonry yard for that one. You can also mix white concrete with washed sand or white stucco mix or white thinset.

That or you could use a modified thinset that comes premixed in a tub, its white.

Thanks, when one reads the directions you would think they would be specific with important details. Even when the 1-800 number was called they only replied to use 2-80lb bags of mortor.

I have not run into an acrlic tub that was that transparent yet. The ones I install, Swanstone, are about as opaque as can be.

As a plumber I would be cautious about installing a tub that was cast so flimsy that you could see through it. Just my thought. Tom
