    Air Conditioner Freezing up
Hey All, I am not sure what is going on, But would appreciate any help you could give me.. Thanks in advance.

2 1/2 yr old Whirlpool Central Heat/Air system.. Everything put in new... It has never cooled the house down completely. My light bill is running around 385 month and 714 in August last year. Had neighbor install it - side job.. He has since moved and I didn't get a warranty with it..

Yesterday the system was hissing really loud, I took out the filter and checked and the coils were frozen. I defrosted the coils, cleaned the coils with coil cleaner, put new filder in, cleaned the drain line, let dry over night and it is still running the same, has not frozen up again, just does not cool the house off. It runs non-stop and it is 85 degrees in my house..

    HELP!

Since your system might not have been installed by a real professional I suggest you contact one in your local area to come to your home and see exactly what the problem is. There can be many different items trhat can cause this type of problem and with those high utility bills you need to get to the bottom of this situation.

This situation happens almost every time someone tries to save a few bucks on the install and allows the neighbor or relative do the job. With those high utility bills you have now lost more $$$ than if you would have had a real professional do the job to start with. A real professional should be able to get your system running correctly and in turn your utility bills will be much smaller.

This is the standard message that I and many others give to posters in your same condition. A/C units are complex and it takes thousands of dollars worth of tools to install and check a system out correctly. It also takes years of experience and education to be able to do the job correctly. Homeowners do not have the tools and the knowledge to fix a complex system and that is why I have limited my advice to calling in a pro. Something simple can usually be figured out but with those high of utility bills indicates your system has some serious problems compounded by the fact that the installer really did not know what he was doing to start with.

What is the model number of your unit? How many tons of cooling? And what is the sf of your house?
