    Thermostat Wiring Problem
My problem is this: My fiancé decided he would install our new thermostat. He takes the old one off the wall then says OK so what color of wire goes to what terminal? He however did not draw a diagram sooo this leads me to my latest problem no heat. The air conditioner works just fine. However when I turned on the heat today the furnace sounded like it was going to blow the house up. My wire colors are green, red, blue white. I have terminals for up to a 5 wire system. The jump wire is in the RC/RH spot as it should be. My other terminals are G, Y/O, W/B, and Y1. Much thanks in advance.

Red should be RC/RH power into the stat
White should be W/B usually, for heat
Green should be G for fan
Yellow usually is for AC, blue may be Y/O

Is there anyway you can trace these wires to be sure each is as I stated?

You can, before connecting the new stat, put two wires together, only 24 volts so no worry about shock, try

Red to green.. fan should start
Red to white.. heat should start
Red to blue... AC should start

TKrussel's answer should work. If you are not comfortable with the noise the furnace makes, post back describing the noise a little more and also your system, gas, oil, heat pump, etc.
