    Sewer line
I am trying to locate the sewer line that is outside my house. I have a sewer problem and it is leaking outside. I dug a hole but just don't know how far to dig down. I can't afford for someone to come and dig it up for me. Could you please tell me where I should dig?

    Thanks

At what level does the line leave the house, through the floor or through the wall?/ If it exits through the floor you must dig 5' maybe 6' to reach that grade.

If waste pipe is in basement, measure down from ceiling beam to pipe and from nearest wall to pipe.

On the outside measure from end of house to locate area where pipe exits. Measure from top of foundation or bottom of siding to ground.

Subtract this measurement from your inside measurement and u will have depth of pipe.

    Good luck

    Good morning Patti,
We need more information before we can respond. Answer Chucks and Bobs questions and I have a few of my own. Do you live in a warm or cold climate?
Are you on a slab or do you have a basement? City sewer or septic tank?
I have a sewer problem and it is leaking outside.
Tell me more about this. Do you have ground water? Is it backing up in your house? Does the water go away over night? In short, we want to know everything that you know. Regards, tom

Patti: one more question: when you say that it is "leaking" outside - what do you exactly mean ? Did you dig exactly in that wet spot ? And what happened ? Please, respond. Thank you...
