    Hi, my question to all of you is:

    Can a collection agency get a judgment against you without you knowing?

    Story:
    My dad recently received a garnishment letter from a collection agency saying that they received a judgment to garnish his wages for an old debt. However, my dad never received a summons to go to court. The date has long past and we did send a letter to the lawyer disputing the garnishment. And we have proof that we did pay. It's a credit card statement showing the payment of the ticket.

    Well the answer to your first question is yes they can, if you don't open all of your mail. Some notice had to be sent but that doesn't mean it arrived or was read.
