Violent two year old
My question is , I have a two year old daughter and she has been very violent lately and thinks its funny, I lay down the law as much as I can with out being a complete of a bad dad you know. I don't hit but I do tend to yell a lot. But nothing has worked. I mean the other day she hit me in the head with a hammer and laughed about it. She knows not to hit people but it has been getting out of control. Does any one have any advice they can offer me?

What did you do when she hit you with the hammer? A lot of responses will depend on your reaction to this.

When she hit me with the hammer I approached it as calm as possible, I grab it away from her and said in a very stern voice, "
we do not hit people with things, you could have hurt daddy very badly. this is dangerous". She seems to respond to the work dangerous. I mean she got the point but I'm just concerned with her not listening and continuing to throw and hit people.

Every now and then a parent can yell at their kid without being a bad parent if its in a pretty serious situation. Hitting your head with a hammer is very serious, she could've hurt you very bad. Give her a very long lecture with a very serious and mad voice but of course, no violence. And then give her a 'time out' each time she does something wrong.

I think it's important too to monitor what they see or have access to. Whether it was on t.v. video games, movies or in cartoons, she saw this behavior and thought that it was funny. Try watching cartoons with her once and see what her reaction is to different things and do some explaining along the way... "you know if that was real that would really hurt and we don't do that.."
