    Steps to the supreme court
If one files a suit or appeals a local decision. What then are the steps (tracking chart or flow chart type) to the supreme court?

If you appeal a case at the County court level, it goes to the State Court level for appeal. This would be called the District Court of Appeals level. Then it can go to the Supreme Court.

It takes a very good reason to appeal a case, not just because you didn't like the ruling. In most cases if it was a trial decision, you would need a transcript of the trial proceedings which can be frightfully expensive to obtain.

FYI - The Supreme Court receives thousands of cases to review each year and only chooses a small fraction of those cases to rule on. The other cases are returned. So chances would be slim to none that your case would be heard by the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. and would have to be professionally prepared by an appeals attorney.

    Hello d:

A state case that was appealed goes to the state appelate court. If THAT decision is appealed, the case goes to the state supreme court. If THAT case is appealed, it goes to a federal district court. If THAT case is appealed, it goes to the federal appealate court. If THAT case is appealed it goes to the Supreme Court.

Twink is right. They take only a few cases each year.
