    Ceiling Fan 3 Speed Pull Chain
    I just purchased a new switch for my ceiling fan. I installed it and the fan still doesn't work.
    The new switch has L,1,2,3 on the casing and at first I was trying to figure out which wire went where. However the old one had the same L,1,2,3 so I took the wires out of the old one, one at a time and put in new one. There was one wire that was not in the original switch and I assume it goes in the open slot labeled L. My question is this a correct assumption?

    The 1- position is yellow
    2- position is purple
    3- position is black
    L- position was open and put the orange wire in that one.

    Anything specific I may be missing please let me know.

    Those colors are correct for some fans. You probably don't have the correct replacement switch. See:
