    Keeping NY Residency
    Hi-

I'm currently have NY residency. I accepted a job in VA with the Department of the Army. I would like to keep my NY residency to start my Masters degree in the fall, as the school requires me to keep NY residency for instate tuition. How would I do this? I don't have an objection of paying to state taxes. Ideas?

Once you move to VA to start work, you LOSE your NY state residency. That is the law, pure and simple.

Income earned while present in VA must be reported to VA.
