Vengeance is mine say-ith the lord
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Very true cozyk, The old testement was a little more set, not at getting even, but more of a punishment for a crime, it contained the criminal code also for the people to live to at the time.
But for getting even, that is the Lords business.

Rom.12:19 & 20 Beloved, do not avenge yourself, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," say the Lord. 20. Therefore "If your
enemy is hunger, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you
will heap coals of fire on his head."
Blessings,

For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head? What does that mean? Sounds similar to "kill him with kindness". That doesn't seem right. That is just another form of vengeance to me.

Cozyk,
"the heap coals of fire on his head" is simply meant that if someone does you wrong, they have to answer to God for it. If you are kind to them in return for their unkindness and they didn't repent of their unkindness, they have even more to answer to God for. God is the only one to judge, to punish, to "make things right" to "even up the score" "to get even' to "pay back"... whatever expression we want to use to justify treating others how WE decide to treat them, rather than treat them with love as God commands.

The analogy here could be that fire can not extinguish fire. Secondly, I think may be Jesus want for that person to realize and repent rather than getting consumed with the thoughts of harming more even after getting even.

This is where forgiveness comes in.2Cor 2:10 & 11
"Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive, For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices."
We would be given satan power over us if we do evil for evil.
Love and Blessings... Maggie 3
