    Central Air and Heat
I have a 10 seer air and heat unit in my home. The compressor was hit by lighting. My electrician put in a 13 seer unit and also replaced the inside unit with 13 seer. Now my insurance company want pay for the inside unit. My electrician said that you can hook up a 13 seer compressor to a 10 seer condenser and coil but if you do the compressor will not put out but 10 seer and it will damage it over time. My electrician said that it was necessary to replace both units. He could not get a 10 seer because it is against the law for manufactures to make then. There are some available but it might take up to two weeks to get one. The insurance company said that it was not necessary to replace the coil and condenser. What do you say?

I am not sure what order things happened in, but if you provided them with numerous quotes from numerous HVAC pros, each would have included replacement of both the condenser unit and evaporator coils with 13 SEER min efficiency. I can't imagine even a bad HVAC pro not quoting a new evap coil.
