Family feued over house verbal agreement gone wrong
    Family feued over house

The situation is 4 years ago my father inlaw asked myself and my wife to move into a house. The deal was he and his wife would put the deposit and complete building the home we would pay the mortgage and the mortgage would be put in our name within 3 years after we moved in. This was a verbal agreement between him his wife my wife their daughter and myself. Sadly he passed away a few months after the home was built and we never had the chance to put it all down on paper. Its come to the point were the house is not feasible for myself and my wife so we said we wanted to move we have lived in the home for four years, during the building of the home a basement suite was built for my mother inlaw the mortgage is in her name as it transferred automatically after my father inlaw passed away she did not want to transfer the mortgage to our name . We moved to the home with the understanding it would be our house we picked out the colors the flooring kitchen etc.. We increased our expenses substanily to move in to the home and we had to put down our two dogs to move here. We were offered a new five year lease at our old residence but desiced to go along with building this home because we thought we were purchasing a home. My wife feels that she is intiled to some money out of the home as we thought we were in the process of buying a home now feeling like we are renters. We have kept all the statements from paying the mortgage. Are we intiled to any thing

Most likely no, verbal agreements ( in the US) is not binding for real estate sales.

You don't even have written lease papers it sounds like.

So you are renters who have been helping fix a house up.
So you paid the mortgage instead of rent payments, others pay rent and then the landlord takes that money and pays the payment.

You needed to get everything in writing before you started putting money into the house
