    Test Scott S1642 PTO Switch
How do I test the safety switches on my Scott S1642 lawn tractor? My wife said she slammed the blade engagement handle forward and got the blades moving one time but latter on she tried it again but the blades would not engage. She knows not to be so rough with tools but the mower just got under her skin. Any help would be appreciated.

The safety switches on the tractor short out the engine when you do something it does not like you to do, it does not stop the baldes from spinning. Check the belt under thetractor, there are 2 going to and around the deck.

My question was not well written. I should have wrote "The engine will not start" and I believe it has something to do with the safety switch but I do not know how to determine if the safety switch is good or bad.

Most tractor have at least 3 safety switches and the most frequent failure is the switch inder the seat. If the cable leading to the switch is a simple 2 wire cable you can make a jumper. However, you must first test with a continumity tester to see if closing, compressing the switch makes or breaks a circuit. If compression makes a circuit then the jumper should do the trick. Here is the rub, if your switch has failed you will likely be getting faulty readings on your tester. I have a spare, $9.50, that I use to test for a bad switch.
